How to Use Fiber Art in 2024 Interior Design Trends

According to experts, when it comes to decorating your home in 2024, minimalism and neutrals are out while bold colors, layered textures, one-of-a-kind pieces, and eclecticism/maximalism are back in.

As a fiber artist and textile enthusiast, this is music to my ears. While there are many ways to bring these elements into your home, fiber art is an especially simple and effective way to apply all of these elements at once.

Texture

With natural fibers and varied surfaces, fiber art is a no-brainer for adding texture to your home. It’s a simple way to create variety in the art on your walls, adding a 3D element and dynamic movement.

“Tactile finishes that age gracefully will be preferred over slick and new, like handwoven textiles, complex stones, and expressive woods,” says designer Alfredo Paredes of Alfredo Paredes Studio, in Vogue. “The subtle sophistication of mixed materials in a room conveys a collected interior, which tends to be more compelling than what appears to have been designed.”

Texture adds visual interest to a space. In addition to fiber art for the walls, rugs are a brilliant way to add both texture and a touch of the eclectic to your living spaces.

“I always want to have a tactile experience when selecting furnishings, and rugs are such a great opportunity to add not only nuance in pattern and tone but texture as well,” says Amber Lewis in Better Homes and Gardens.

Statement rugs also got a shoutout in Good Housekeeping as a creative way to apply modern maximalism design in your home.

"I'm seeing jewel tones and statement rugs — lots of color with statement neutrals,” said Jennifer Fisher, J. Fisher Interiors

Maximalism

“Bland uniformity and minimalism are out,”  says Robin Standefer in Vogue. “Bold colors and more of a maximalist vibe will reign over neutrals and minimalism in 2024 and beyond.”

This is music to my ears! Maximalism and eclectic style doesn’t have to be messy, but instead can be beautifully curated to give our spaces a more lived in, homey feeling.

“Interior designers say we can look forward to getting cozy in the next year with layers of texture, a warm, inviting color palette, and an eclectic mix of furniture,” says Better Homes and Gardens

Biophilic Design

Have you heard this term before? Biophilic design brings elements of the outdoors and nature inside and incorporates it into home decor. As someone who makes art inspired by nature, I absolutely love this one.

"Biophilic design will thrive in 2024," Ginger Curtis, CEO and founder of Urbanology Designs, tells Brit + Co. "This trend centers around bringing the outdoors inside, creating spaces that foster a stronger connection with nature."

Fiber art that incorporates rustic natural fibers or natural designs makes incorporating biophilic design effortless.

Other trends seen across the board: bold hues, fluted furniture, incorporating vintage pieces, and use of mixed metals.

Are you excited about any of these trends? Do you already have any elements of these trends in your home?
