Reflect Woven Wall Hanging

Where I live, I get to experience sunrise over the water. The white pines and aspen seem to lift up the sun over the lake. Each season offers a different experience, and autumn’s sunrises, while later and later in the day, are particularly gorgeous. Punctuated by clouds. Cast in pinks and purples. Illuminating frost. More and more welcome as the days get shorter and colder. 

Reflect is a design I’ve made many iterations of, but never in landscape orientation as with this piece, or with such fulsome, flowing fringe. Created with wool-blend slate grey and blue-teal 100% Churro wool from the Woolery.

peak color centerpiece tapestry

There is a term for when the fall colors are at their most spell-binding: “peak color.” But really, here the fall colors filter through over time, providing multiple “peak” experiences. The mountain maples and underbrush go first in orange and umber, the aspen and birch later in electric yellow. And, after everything else has turned brown and fallen, the tamaracks remain golden late into October, providing a little welcome shock of color long after peak has come and gone.

MIGRATION Woven Wall Hanging

When the leaves begin to fall and the temperature shifts, a familiar sound enters the landscape: geese calling from overhead as they fly in their great V southward. It is a melancholy sound, no matter how much you embrace fall or appreciate winter. It is the audible manifestation of change.

CELESTIAL

I wove this sweet little wall hanging during a week in early September when the sun was completely absent for nearly a week. This weaving brought a little brightness amid the storms. For the corner of the home that needs a little light and warmth. 

Made with cream wool-acrylic blend yarn and mustard wool roving.
